Is a social structure inside an organization or society, where different cultures exist next to each other without fusing or merging. Each of them is homogenous.

The risk of this concept is the separation and ghettoization of those.


Transculturality is a concept of culture shaped by the philosopher Wolfgang Welsch in 1997 that includes every individual, no matter which national background. It stands in contrast to multiculturalism and interculturality.


Interculturality is the meeting of two or more cultures and the approach of finding a way of interaction.

Here, the risk is that one can´t reach the root of the Problem because of intercultural communication problems.


is the present form of our society. Cultures are not seen as homogeneous. One big reason of this is globalization and migration. The concept of classical cultural boundaries is transcending, and merging is one of the main characteristics of culture.

We are living in in a time of change, in a constant transition where identity becomes a complex and unstable search of origin, roots and gender.

To work with people means being aware of everyone´s different background. We should be variously aware that there are frames of history, frames of environment, frames of ethnicity, frames of language, frames of belief and value and the never ending shifting frames that evolve between individuals through moment-to- moment interaction. Being aware of those frames is called working:


Culture is something flexible and elusive. Its a continuously developing way of life and practices and it is important to work beyond basic assumptions about culture underlying and nurturing prejudices and stereotypes.


Client centred change is as important as community centred change.

It is a developmental process which is more holistic than linear.

Contemporary urban multiculturalism and the renewed

To work with cultural sensitivity means having an openness to the possibility that things may always be different. It needs willingness to accept that what is taken for granted may be questioned and requires emotional and cognitive flexibility at a personal level. (Stige 2002)



Music as a non-verbal medium of conversation gives many opportunities while working with different cultures. It is a medium that can help support community engagement across religious, social, class or political boundaries and it can help supporting community cohesion and understanding.


One beautiful example of music used as a a bridge is the musical-communal project by Dr Avi Gilboa and Raneen Hanna from Bar Ilan University in Israel, they have been working with students on a cutting-edge and well researched programme called “Let’s Talk Music” for enhancing communication among students of multi-cultural origin. This reseach project was aiming to create mutual respect and understanding between the communities, religions and participants taking part. It showed, that this interplay eventually enables Let's talk music participants to gain a more developed and more tolerant identity.
